*******spoilers******** The review may be scatter brained. So much happened so fast. After getting the "I'm a poisoner" bombshell from Arsinoe you get the what the heck happened to Kat in the chasm. Kat comes back from the dead. She also comes back different. She has the past queens in her head, you know the ones that were killed during the Ascension year. I was so confused on what her gift was and now she can ingest poison. She has no care if she gets sick from it. I also did not like how she goes to Arsinoes' home for a festival and tries to kill her. I like Arsinoe. Jules takes Arsinoe and Kats horse to the Black Cottage. She goes there because she knows her aunt Caragh is there and can help. People want to see more or Arsinoe and her great brown but when she doesn't return from the queens hunt people get sad and confused. Natalia has no clue what is going on with Kat but goes with it. Before the festival happens Arsinoe got to have some good luck in her life. She got to meet William (Billy) and have feelings for one of her suitors before the killing started. I was so happy for her. Billy hates Kat, can't blame him because I do to. Billy's' father has got this plan that Billy will be the King-consort to whomever is crowned and when he realizes it won't work he sends Billy to Rolanth to be the taster for Queen Mira. Doesn't help much when his father poisons Mira before the Kat/Mira duel can begin. Oh yeah, what the heck Natalia? Trying to cheat your way to crowning Kat? I really do not like Natalia in this book. She is wicked and vile and doesn't really care when people get hurt because of Kat. She just goes with it because she wants more power. Mira on the other hand doesn't want to kill her sisters but after Kat kills Arsinoe Mira is mad and is ready to go after Kat. She plans a face to face duel with Kat for revenge. And she has made a pact with Billy, when she wins the crown she will choose him as her king-consort so they can keep Arsinoe's memory alive. Neither of them know that Arsinoe is not actually dead. I kinda wish Blake killed Arsinoe just so we could have gotten rid of Kat once and for all but ya know can't make anything easy here. When Arsinoe comes to help Mira in the duel, she actually makes matters worse because both queens say they will not kill the other. So now Kat if Crowned Queen and her two sisters are exiles sentenced to death. Kat tries to poison Arsinoe again. Arsinoe tells Mira she is a poisoner and they plan a way to get of jail and find Jules and Joseph. Jules and Joseph helped Arsinoe get to the duel. Arsinoe and her peeps slowly make their way out of the jail building using Jules war gift. Oh yeah, another bombshell, Jules is legion cursed with naturalist and war gifts. Yay! Anyway during their escape the leader of the war gifted people joins in on the escape. They offer Jules a place in their city and her friends. Jules wants to leave the island and live a normal life with Joseph. They get to the harbor and take a boat. Mira uses her gift to help them get across the sea and the island mist. Joseph got shot during the escape and kept claiming he was fine. He was not fine, not fine at all. Just as Arsinoe, Mira, Billy, Jules, and Joseph are nearing the end of the mist Joseph dies from thr poison arrow wound. Jules decides to got back to Fennbirn now that she has no reason to leave. The mist gladly takes her. What does the island have in store for Jules????????? Will Mira and Arsinoe try and find their mother? Why must Blake end the book with " The queens of fennbirn will be back"? Why is Kat pure poison? Why did Nicolas have to die the night after wedding his bride?
