Although some people hate this book, I on the other hand love it. The book begins with a 17 year old lady who is just being dropped off at her new boarding school Sword & Cross. She has landed at the school because of a tragic accident that happened at her last school. Right after her parents drop her off at Sword & Cross the young lady, Luce realizes just how different her life is going to be now. Not only does she have to give up her only means to contact her best friend, Callie, but she also notices all the cameras that watch the students 24/7. The campus itself is located on an old Confederate Military Base in Georgia with its own cemetery. Her life has been completely turned upside down and there is nothing she can do about it. During her little orientation Luce meets an attractive classmate of the male gender named Cam and a probably kinda crazy lady named Arriane. Arriane was told to give Luce a tour of the campus. They become friends from that moment on.

On Luce's first day of classes she gets the name meat loaf, makes an enemy of Molly, and gets the middle finger from an attractive guy named Daniel. It is from that first little encounter with Daniel that Luce finds herself draw to him by some unnameable force. Their complicated unfolds in a magical and kind of sad way. There's a love triangle, weird events, and a suspenseful love story just waiting to happen in this book. Also kick butt women who should never be underestimated within the pages.

I personally love this book. It has what I find to be an entertaining story; love, kick butt characters, realistic characters that you can actually relate with. I relate to Pennyweather van Syckle Lockwood, Penn to close friends because she is bullied and or ignored by most and only has one friend, the Librarian, Miss Sophia. Penn befriends the new girl on the first day by helping Luce in her sticky situation. Penn also helps Luce research a personal issue and is there for her when things go wrong.
